Sending a page or message can easily be done by:

• Telephone Answering Service. Alphanumeric pagers integrate very well if you are already a Select Communications customer, and the cost to add this service unbeatable.
• Co-workers, friends and family can send you messages directly.
• Using voice mail, personalized dispatch or a simpler form is also an option.

Numeric Paging

One of the simplest, most inexpensive (that means cheap!) way to stay in touch with co-workers, customers, clients, friends and family is a numeric pager. This type of pager is:

• Simple, reliable and long lasting.
• Small and lightweight.
• Usually these pagers include clocks and alarms. Some users stop carrying a watch.
• Universally understood and accepted.

These pagers do not receive complete messages. They receive only numbers and dashes, which are usually telephone numbers and pre-arranged codes. If you need a pager that receives complete text and numeric messages then you would be more interested in an alphanumeric pager.

Here is a brief description of how these pagers work:

1. You buy a pager and arrange for service which works within boundaries. The service can include voice mail, a simple greeting, email notification, retransmission, and many more features such as page forwarding, a second number or more, Meet-Me paging, auto-message retreival, page-until-pickup, and much more.
2. As long as you are in the area, and not away in a far off land, you can receive your message when someone dials your pager number and leaves you a message. Alternatively, a person could send you an email.
3. A paging terminal answers the call (or receives the email), plays a message, records a message, and then forwards the appropriate information on the the paging transmission system.
4. A system of radio towers and transmitters sends out the page.
5. Your pager listens for its pages, and alerts you when it receives one.
